Introducing Hair Growth Mesotherapy

Neville-mesotherapy-renee-lapino-clinic

The Renée Lapino Clinic present their latest post-lockdown treatment: Hair Growth Mesotherapy.

You're already stressed out of your mind due to what feels like the actual apocalypse, but Hair loss seems to be on the increase perhaps due to all these recent stresses and a knock-on effect if you have suffered from Covid. At Neville’s we have witnessed a surge with more and more clients complaining of clumps of hair falling out on a daily basis.

With our clients at the forefront of everything we do, Leading London skincare specialist Renee Lapino who now heads up the beauty floor within the salon has launched her Hair Growth Mesotherapy.

Renee Lapino has a regenerative hair treatment that is completely painless and uses a mesotherapy pen to inject hair growth serum into the scalp all without needles: just air pressure. The serum is an advanced formula containing amino acids, vitamins and minerals that “awaken” dormant hair follicles, stimulating a reaction that includes new baby hair growth as well as the thickening of the hair at the scalp.

After injection, the treatment concludes with a 10-minute Champissage, or better known as an Indian head massage, to increase blood flow and stimulation to the scalp, boosting the hair renewal rate.

There is no downtime, and this treatment takes 30 minutes. The recommendation is 3-6 treatments and results will develop over 8-16 weeks.

Pore Blaster Special

SOMETHING-SPECIAL-FOR-YOU

This month, the Renee Lapino clinic at Neville Hair and beauty has decided to offer you something special!

PORE BLASTER FACIAL

Renee Lapino Clinic's Pore Blaster Special

The Renee Lapino Clinic is introducing a new facial called the "Pore Blaster" which will be offered for a limited time only! The Pore Blaster facial targets exactly what it says: those pesky visible pores. Starting with a peel to deep clean and prep your skin, the facial uses our nanofractional radiofrequency technology on your T-zone where pores are most visible. Nanofractional RF stimulates new skin cells to regenerate and, over the next 4 weeks post-treatment, push out the dead skin from pores and reduce their visibility. Offered at £350, this advanced facial is perfect for all skin types, whether you have regular treatments or not. This facial gives you RESULTS.

MIDSUMMER CLEANUP FACIAL

Renee Lapino Clinic's Midsummer Cleanup Facial

The RL new Midsummer Cleanup Facial is the perfect treatment for dull, tired skin from sweat, heat, sunscreen, and in need of some love to bring it back to life. The protocol has been specifically created to brighten and refresh your skin and protect your skin barrier. Using medical grade products, the facial begins with a crystal exfoliation that's pumped with enzymes, followed by SkinPen® microneedling, and finishing with a cooling sunflower mask and LED light. With results in 4 weeks or less, this treatment offered at £350 is the perfect "cleanup" facial to put into your calendar.

We look forward to welcoming you into the salon,

Introducing Silhouette Slicing

The Silhouette Slicing Technique by Top Colour Director Seniz.

Put down the make-up brushes now, there’s a new form of contouring in hand that’s gone to the head. The Silhouette Slicing Technique by Top Colour Director Seniz.

The technique comes down to total talent and an artistic eye – it’s about shadow placement and a clever use of light and dark tones that throw shadow and light onto her clients face in just the right places. The look isn’t just for models, there’s a colour contouring prescription for everyone, whether applied to highlight a specific area or blended to create a more uniform impression of lightness and depth.

Seniz explains, “ It’s my job to tailor every detail to your unique hair type and natural colour, facial features, skin tone, makeup, clothing and lifestyle."

Silhouette Slicing is a contouring colouring technique that takes into consideration your individual face shape (long, round or square) using a combination of foil highlights placed in an upside triangle with the positioning of different tones and depths to create shadows.

For example, Heart Shaped Faces - “Lighter pieces are woven around the jawline and ears to soften the bottom half of the face. By mixing fine, light tones with depth at the roots, the face takes on a slightly more oval shape.”

Once the contouring around the face is done, Seniz applies foils on the crown to connect the colour of the upside-down triangle with the ends. This creates a colour balance between roots and end. In this case less is always more. The service takes 45 minutes to apply.

The idea behind this service is to enable clients to go blonder without compromising the health of their hair. Bye bye backcombing.

The contour and connection service means that your hair looks blonder, the service is low maintenance and there will be no division of colour when you tie your hair up.

This service is suitable for women who wear their hair wavy. It is not suitable for straight limp hair.

As for achieving a harmonious colour match for your skin tone, put your faith in Seniz and her knowledge on the Redken Flashlift collection.

Seniz goes onto explain, "Everything can be divided into either a ‘cool’ or ‘warm’ spectrum. Cool indicates blue undertones and warm will have intrinsic yellow, so it’s important to identify the correct shade of blonde, red or brunette that will suit your colouring, both in terms of tone and depth. As hairdressers we can create the right colour shade and depth that will ultimately flatter and enhance a client’s beauty, making them look youthful and healthy whether they are wearing makeup or not.”

Silhouette Slicing not only gives you the hair colour that is made specifically for you it will instantly boost your complexion.

Introducing Holiday Hair

The new summer colours inspired by our favourite destinations

Top Colour Director, Seniz Aklan whose colour skills are called upon internationally and with the starlets of London, celebrates her new colour pod at Neville Salon. A safe sleek hub honouring her creative colour techniques that has her truly in demand.

Celebrating this, she launches Holiday Hair, by literally bringing the holiday to your hair. If you can’t or don’t feel like going abroad this summer, don’t worry. With the launch of her 4 top beach destination colours you can look like you’ve been on holiday with sun kissed, glowing and healthy locks.

You can choose to dip your hair into the following hues: Ibiza Golden Hour, Capri Cioccolato, Cote D’Azur Riviera Waves and Corsican Rosa. With Seniz’s artistic approach to colour and her creative colour placement your hair naturally dazzles in natural light. Her holistic technique means hair is nourished during your colour, so hair shimmers with hydration.

Lisa Snowden is a huge fan of the Capri Cioccolato whilst Jaqueline Jossa has dipped her locks recently into the Riviera Waves.

Capri Cioccolato picks up on the idyllic Italy. Rich in colours and texture with a fresh zesty feel a nod to the lemon groves scattered along the coast line. Seniz manages to mix chocolate browns with fresh lemon. This is a canny mix of 1/3 highlight and 2/3 lowlight – The placement depends on the haircut and style and how the hair is worn on a day to day basis.

Ibiza Golden Hour pays homage to the heavenly balmy golden rays towards the end of your beach day. Where the tunes begin to kick in but there is more relaxing to be done. Golden honey hair is what Seniz has created. Ibiza Golden waves is a beautiful blended ombré with a hairvenly honey base to achieve a new look. Ombré is achieved by backcombing the hair – Roots remain untouched – Low maintenance look

Cote D’Azur Riviera Waves creates a movement of waves in the hair with her clever colour placement. Seniz darkens the roots to give more body to flat limp hair and then the art is in her hand painting dimensions into the lengths of the hair using hair thumb and index.

Corsican Rosa - The softest pink with an undertow of butter yellow. Seniz goes to work on the lower base with bleach in foil mixed with hydrating Olaplex applied to mid lengths and ends depending on the quality of your roots. This is followed by root bleach and a deep hydrating olaplex treatment all over for added shine . The application on mid lengths and ends were applied in slices for even colour distribution.

If you can’t face the flying this year don’t worry you can still look hairvenly.

Summer Haircare Tips

Neville Summer Haircare Tips

With most people’s impeding departure to sunnier destinations, we thought we would pull together a list of invaluable haircare tips to see you through your holiday. After all, you have just come out from three months lockdown and have only just started to feel like yourself again. So, to avoid a repeat of lockdown locks here are 5 easy to follow tips to ensure you don’t compromise the health of your hair whilst on holiday:

1. Protect your hair

We’ve become pretty savvy when it comes to our skincare regimen and most of us know the importance of wearing UV protection daily regardless of the weather, yet we tend to overlook the importance of protecting our hair. Believe it or not, the effects of prolonged sun exposure on the hair are very similar to those on the skin. Left unprotected, the pesky rays can cause havoc to your tresses and not only for those who colour or bleach their hair. Hence why our hair can often feel brittle and lifeless when we return from holiday. To prevent damage for occurring, we recommend making hair SPF your new beach bag staple.

2. Accessorise

One of the biggest challenges our hair faces during sun exposure, aside from the obvious UV damage, is loss of moisture. By wearing a hat or head scarf you help your scalp retain moisture which is paramount for healthy hair. We all the more, recommend using accessories as a wind shield, particularly if you are planning to spend your summer island hopping around Greece, as those big gusts of wind could quickly turn your beach waves into unwanted matted locks.

3. Air Dry

Use this downtime to give your hair a break too by avoiding or reducing the use of heat appliances. During summer your hair will be exposed to substantial heat, so it’s a good opportunity to embrace your natural look. There are some great products on the market that can help you get the best out of your natural hair; whether you are seeking to define a curl or simply add some volume the combination of good product and letting your air dry au naturel will prevent damage.

4. Switch styles

If you are a fan of the tight pony, now is the time to switch things up. During summer your hair will be dry from the heat so it’s the perfect opportunity to try looser styles like a braid or top knot. Looser styles will prevent the hair from pulling and breaking. Also, consider your choice of ties. We are currently big fans of silk ties which prevent tugging and breakage. You can read about the effects of hair ties on hair in our previous blog post here.

5. Condition your hair

It’s evident that from the points above your hair will suffer from lack of moisture when exposed to heat, that’s why it’s very important to treat it with care and provide it with some extra TLC. Nothing beats a good conditioning mask after your usual shampoo and conditioner routine. Using a conditioning mask will restore the moisture in your hair as well as add shine to your lengths.

Common Hair Problems Debunked

Common Hair Problems Debunked

Regardless of any of our hair concerns, we all aspire for the same thing and that’s having great looking hair. With that in mind, we’ve picked out some of the most common hair concerns and how to overcome them the Neville way.

1. Dandruff

Dandruff is a scalp condition that causes flaky particles of skin to detach and linger on your hairline and clothes. Often embarrassing and difficult to treat, dandruff can also be triggered by stress or a poor diet. There are various ways to treat dandruff, but if this is a recurring problem you should seek medical advice. For those suffering from mild dandruff we recommend using Kérastase Specifique Bain Anti-Pelliculaire. Infused with Zinc Pyrithione and salicylic acid, this shampoo cleanses and eliminates impurities from the hair and scalp by targeting the bacteria responsible for dandruff and purifying the scalp of sebum known to cause dandruff. Visible flakes are removed for up to 8 weeks for both oily and dry dandruff. The shampoo can also be used in conjunction with the Kérastase

The shampoo can also be used in conjunction with the Kérastase Anti-Dandruff Scalp Treatment which restores the visible quality and suppleness of the scalp, while protecting against oxidative stress. This treatment leaves the scalp feeling soothed and diminishes itchiness due to dryness and redness.

2. Hair Loss

Hair loss although frequently associated as a problem faced mostly by men, is also a common issue for women. Men’s hair loss often presents itself as a balding pattern whereas women experience a decrease in volume and increased shedding. The causes vary but can often be linked to stress, hormonal changes, menopause and daily aggressors. We recommend investing in a water filter for your shower which can help reduce the amount of lead and zinc that your hair is exposed to. In addition, you should try switching up your haircare routine. We love the new Kérastase Genesis Range which is formulated for weakened hair, prone to falling due to breakage. Enriched with Edelweiss Native Cells, Ginger Root & Aquaxyl this shampoo gently clarifies and helps reinforce fibre to reduce the risk of hair-fall due to breakage. Finally try and avoid heat appliances when possible.

3. Dry Hair

Over washing your hair can be one of the main causes for it to dry out as it can strip away your hairs’ natural oils. To help prevent it from drying out we recommend using conditioning treatments regularly. At Neville’s we offer a variety of in salon treatments such as Fusio Dose, Olaplex and the Redken Gold mask to help restore your hair’s natural moisture. These can be booked in online via our website or via phone on 0207 235 3654. We also recommend using hydrating haircare treatments at home such as the Balmain overnight repair serum designed to repair and strengthen your hair against breakage or the Balmain repair mask for extra nourishment.

4. Split Ends

Unless you follow a diligent regime when it comes to hair cutting you are most likely prone to split ends. These can occur as a result of overbrushing or excessive heat application. It’s important to remember that you should treat your hair with the same care you would treat your skin. Here at Neville, we offer a thermal scissor cut. Using heated scissor blades to round off and seal the hair tip to lock in moisture and minimise the damage that is caused by pollution, sunlight and heat styling. Expect your thermal scissor cut to last an extra month, split end free. Great for stretching out time between appointments. In addition, we recommend using a good quality hairbrush such as our Neville Paddle brush.

5. Greasy Hair

I’m sure you’ve heard of the word sebum before which is the name of the natural oil your scalp produces. At times your scalp can produce too much of it, which is when you are likely to experience greasy hair. You might be tempted to try and strip the oils using harsher shampoos, however these natural oils are primordial to maintain healthy luscious locks. So what’s the solution ? Try spacing out shampoos and replace every two washes with the use of dry shampoo. When applying conditioner try and avoid putting any on the roots, instead focus on the ends of your hair. When possible try using a cleansing shampoo to remove any product build-up on your scalp. We are particularly fond of Kérastase Specifique Bain Divalent which is a scalp shampoo for oily roots. It treats the hair fiber from lengths to tips to nourish dry and sensitized ends for hair to regain softness and shine. Hair at the roots greases less quickly while lengths remain nourished with split ends sealed.

How to determine your hair type

Neville Hair Textures

Understanding your hair type is just as important as understanding your skin type. Without making a careful analysis, you will struggle to come up with an effective routine.

The first thing to know about determining your hair type is that there are 4 main categories: straight, wavy, curly and coily. What is more, there are other key elements to take into consideration such as porosity and scalp moisture which permit you to identify your unique hair type. Feeling lost yet?

When we talk about hair texture, we refer to the natural shape of your hair strands. There is an easy way to determine into which category you fall: next time you wash your hair you should let it dry naturally without adding any products. If your hair is bend and curl free and has a straight appearance, you can pretty much guarantee you have straight hair. Alternatively, if it dries with a slight bend or has an S shape, your hair is considered wavy. If your hair dries with a pronounced curl or loop pattern it means you have curly hair. Finally, a tight curl or spiral shape means you have coily hair.

When considering your hair, it is important to think about its structure and particularly its thickness. This is a deciding factor in how well your hair will react to products and which hairstyles you will be able to adopt. The best way to assess which category your hair falls into - either fine, medium or coarse - is to take a single strand of hair and place it next to a piece of thread. Thin hair will generally be finer than the thread and sadly probably won’t hold curls. If it appears thicker you most probably have coarse hair, and this will be further confirmed if you have difficulty styling it. If your hair is more or less the same size as the thread it is considered medium, making it easy to style and hold curls.

Porosity is another key aspect of your hair, which ultimately determines how much moisture or product your hair can retain. This is generally not how you determine your hair type but mostly to give you an idea of which hair products you should be using. There is an easy spray test you can carry out to determine your hair’s porosity. In order to carry the test out you will need a small water bottle with a spritz nozzle. Take a small section of naturally dried hair and apply water on small section. If the water appears just to sit on top the hair, chances are you have low porosity. This basically means that the cuticle lays flat preventing moisture to be absorbed, it is therefore recommended to apply any haircare on wet hair. Normal porosity is if your hair absorbs the water slowly, this is the lowest maintenance type. If your hair soaks in the water immediately, you have high porosity which means your hair is dry and brittle. For anyone that has high porosity we recommend using a lot of nourishing treatments and to avoid heat styling. Leave in treatments are also a great option to prevent further damage to the cuticle.
